Beach Pigs have recently released their single "No Work" which is available for free download on their band camp. The song is accompanied by a little video clip (which was filmed by me) showing the band leaving their dead end job to have a fun day eating pies and jumping over poles. This release is the prelude to the release of their debut self titled EP which is to be released along with a release from Meese on the 23rd of September.

My band Hivemind recently released this 4 track demo which we have now made free to download. Check it out. It was the last thing we did with our long time bassist Kramer, who has now left us for the great Aussy Outback. We have since taken on board Roger Moore (Caskgrinder, Filthy Lucifer, ex Kia Kaha Kids) to fill the space on the funky bass lines. Currently we are in the process of writing for a possible album and are chucking round ideas for a possible video. Expect greatness.

Meth Drinker are a sludge doom metal band from Wellington. I caught a little bit of their set at Punkfest last year but was too drunk to really realise what was happening but I caught them again at an Auckland house party the other week and holy fuck they were awesome. Heavy and slow as fuck, and when the tempo did pick up I almost shat my pants. I'm pretty sure their record is all sold out now but you can still listen to some tracks on their bandcamp or you could purchase a CD for $10 from Alwaysneverfunrecords

After months of annoyingly loud electronic music been blasting through my house, the same songs over and over again at all hours of the day, my younger brother has finally finished his first EP. Even though I've heard this countless times throughout the editing process it is still just as good as it ever was. Suren's EP is chilled mellow and almost atmospheric electronic music that uses self recorded samples and and a combination of vocals from some of his very talented friends. Previously Suren has been in an electronic band called Ponny Fight and has also played drums in our old band No Greater Power and currently drums in Hivemind and Beach Pigs.

Sora Shima are a Hamilton based Post Rock band, similar in style to Mogwai and Godspeed You! Black Emperor etc. Check out their band camp where you can get a whole bunch of their releases for no minimum cost (you don't have to pay if you're cheap). Check em out. I like them. They opened for Jakob at the Kings Arms in Auckland a few weeks ago.

Strangers from Wellington are one of my favourite bands to come out of New Zealand. Previously named Guest Stabs Host they changed their name and evolved their sound into what was known as Strangers. After breaking up in 2010 they have recently put up their demo, full length and two EP's for free download. Auckland band God Bows To Math have just released their new EP for free download on their bandcamp page here. There you can also download some of their older releases including a covers/B-sides release. God Bows To Math are a noise rock/math rock band and state their influences as Mclusky, Minutemen, Nirvana, Slint, Arab On Radar, Shellac, Lungfish, The Gits, Cows, Chavez, and Unwound, all of which are reflected quite well in God Bows To Math's sound.

Kitsunegari are a young band from Auckland. They play noisy punky grunge inspired rock. It's really pretty good, and this isn't a "they're good for young people" but it's honestly pretty rad.

The release show for this split is on the 5th of March at the Thirsty Dog in Auckland. Supporting bands are Tentacles of Destruction and Last Rockets. Should be good... especially with two bands that had apparently broken up ...(Ferndale Stranglers and Tentacles)

I've been meaning to chuck this up for ages.

Hivemind is my current band. This is our demo. Download it. We recorded it at Zeal, West Auckland with Chris Horry. Chris also did guest vocals on the track 'Polar'.

Since recording this we have gained a new member who goes by the name of Jono. He also plays guitar in Parents. He's cool.

We will be doing a whole heap of stuff throughout summer including playing shows. So come along.
