The Warpath

The Warpath was a aggressive Hardcore band from Hamilton, New Zealand. They released their album "Nowhere To Run" in 2005 on Action Man Records. The Warpath featured members of Antagonist A.D, Cry Wolf, Mean Streak and Evil Priest. They broke up in 2007, playing their final show at Hamtown Smakdown '07.

Cold By Winter

In light of Cold By Winter doing their 'final' reunion show this coming Friday, they have uploaded their album, "We The Living" for free download. Cold By Winter were a melodic screamo post hardcore band? (not too good with defining their genre) from Auckland. They've had heaps of line up changes and members from many known bands, such as Carthaginian, In Dread Response and Shot Gun Alley (plus heaps more).

Brick vs Face

Brick vs Face were a groovy Hardcore Punk band originating in Tauranga but relocated to Hamilton and Auckland in later years. While they were around Brick vs Face became one of the most popular hardcore bands in New Zealand at the time, supporting international acts such as Comeback Kid.

They released their debut album "In Your Face" in 2006 with their original vocalist

Task One

Task One were a ska band who played regular shows around Auckland in 2004-2006. Formed by a bunch of friends from Mt Roskill Grammar, their music is fun and mostly not too serious, meaning they pulled decent crowds of high school ages kids to their shows. Members went on to be in such bands as Yebiisu and Surf City. Download

Twenty One Guns

Twenty One Guns was a Hardcore band from Hamilton. Members went on to form/be a part of some well known New Zealand Hardcore bands, most notably Antagonist A.D. They reformed briefly a few years ago to play the annual Hamtown Smakdown hardcore festival in Hamilton, where they gave out their EP for free. Download

xULTRAMILITANTx

I was told by a friend about a side project or something of the sort done by members of New Zealand Hardcore band, Evil Priest. I believe (but am not entirely sure) the project was done in between the release of their second album, "Hardcore Gods" and their third album "III: A Hardcore Legacy", it was called xULTRAMILITANTx. Turns out that most, if not all the songs on the xULTRAMILITANTx recordings were eventually used on Evil Priest III:A Hardcore Legacy. So this is pretty much the demo tracks for Evil Priests last album.

Razorwyre, formerly known as Gaywyre are a Thrash/Power Metal band from Wellington, NZ. Influenced by 80s metal legends such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, these dudes pull of the genre almost too well. Check them out if you have a chance, they put on a really fun live show.

Rackets are arguably one of the most hardworking young bands in New Zealand. With a 40 or so date tour across the country, a double album release, making the 95bfm top ten charts, releasing 6 consecutive singles, each with a video and a B-side and with yet another album on the way it's kind of hard to debate that these three weirdos are doing anything but working hard. The last of the "six sick singles" was finally released so I figured I should post them all up here in order.

Screamo (or Skramz lol) is not a genre you often find in within New Zealand music scenes although Auckland band Parents have been changing that. Influenced by the likes of Orchid, Wing Kids, Funeral Diner and Daitro - Parents sticks to the genres conventions whilst adding their own flair. Their chaotically noisy songs which are then contrasted with quiet ambient parts full of delay and guitar loops has gained Parents quite a bit of interest within Auckland and even New Zealand's alternative music scenes.

Parents have released two EPs and have printed some T-shirts which can be ordered directly from the band via Facebook or at shows.

Skinnybeast are a rap duo from Auckland consisting of Jono Glenday (Parents, Hivemind) and Dan Bond (Pillage). Influences include mostly modern rap such as Yelawolf and Odd Future. Check out these up and coming rap artists.

SHITRIPPER

Shitripper are a fast and energetic hardcore punk band from Auckland. They've had multiple line up changes, most notably was when the original lead vocalist left the band, which lead to two other members moving from their stringed instruments to doing duel vocals. Band members of Shitripper (past and present) have been in heaps of other notable punk and hardcore bands such as Missing Teeth, Cobra Kahn, and The Bludgers to name only a few. Their past experience shines through when you see this band live - tight and polished as but still fun and aggressive. They have been around since 2008? I think? In that time they've released a few demos which were usually only sold at a single show for $2 each. Anyways they're a rad band and you should check them out when you have a chance.

Here are the first two demos. They were made with the original vocalist on vocals.

NEVERMIND PUNKFEST... Here's some other shit

Punkfest usually happens annually on Labour Weekend in Wellington. Although this year they couldn't get the venue the festival needed - so the organisers decided not to do it this time round, leaving some sad punks with nothing to do over Labour Weekend. Alas the spirit of punkrawk shines strong and the punx all got together and organised their own Punkfests all around the country!

Beach Pigs have recently released their single "No Work" which is available for free download on their band camp. The song is accompanied by a little video clip (which was filmed by me) showing the band leaving their dead end job to have a fun day eating pies and jumping over poles. This release is the prelude to the release of their debut self titled EP which is to be released along with a release from Meese on the 23rd of September.
